The Friends of the Rensselaer Public Library are interested in commissioning an original work of art to celebrate the 30th Birthday of the Jasper County Library building. The theme of the commissioned piece should relate to the value and meaning of reading and libraries. It does not need to contain the literal library building. This work of art would be no smaller than [36” tall X 46 “ wide] and no larger than [44” tall X 76” wide] and is to hang on the wall, replacing a quilt made by the Carnegie Quilters.
Any appropriate medium will be considered. Remuneration would be $800-$1000. The official celebration will be November 30, 2022, and while the piece does not have to be finished by that date, anticipated completion date will be a consideration. This does not have to be a new work of art. We will consider existing work that fits the parameters. Questions and proposals should be submitted to Linda Poortenga, Rensselaer Headquarters Librarian, (LPoortenga@myjcpl.org) no later than September 8, 2022. A staff committee will evaluate each proposal and make a recommendation to the library Director for approval. The Friends of the Library will make the award by October 1, 2022.
The Proposal should include:
Artist’s name and contact information
Dimensions of artwork and medium
Hanging requirements (If any)
Estimated Completion date
Conceptual sketch or photo of artwork
